4:30 on this tuesday morning, good morning. i'm gene ramirez. >> and i am gayle guyardo. we are following breaking news there. are reports of two explosions at the airport in brussels. at least one person is dead and there are multiple casualties. the terror level there was elevated to maximum just about 30 minutes ago. rail traffic to the airport has been suspended. and there are no flights going in or out of the airport right now. the explosions happened only days after the prime suspect in the paris attack was arrested in brussels.
the details and we will have updates for you in just minutes. in our other top stories this morning, an important safety alert. we are talking about a super pill that's invading the streets of pinellas county. the pill looks like a xanax but it's mixed with powerful pain medications that did be deadly. that shall -- that can be deadly. we will have more in a live report including all you need to know to keep your loved ones safe. and it is decision day for voters in arizona a, utah and idaho. -- arizona, utah and idaho. in arizona, 58 delegates are at stake. and the calendar says spring but our temperatures at this hour tell a whole different story. it is a cold morning in the bay area. meteorologist leigh spann joins us now to tell us when it's going to warm up.
not take long to warm up but over the next two to three hour, yeah, a taste of winter again. look at this, 38 in zephyrhills. 39 in inverness and brooksville. lakeland just dropped to 4 3 . point. and in those areas with the 30s, a frost advisory, that hernando counties. a.m. but even before 9:00 a.m., you will notice the warm-up. good thing today, it's not as windy as yesterday. winds are basically calm at this point. and with the sunny sky, with the low humidity, it's going to be a very pleasant afternoon. 73 degrees. that's a real fast warm-up so at 4:38 in weather and traffic on the 8s, i have an eight-day eight-day temperature trend. and leslee is going to let you know about the roads. not much. a little bit of overnight construction. it's actually a pretty good drive.
it's the last week of this construction issue with the railroad work that u.s. 41 completely closed at crenshaw lake which is also whitaker. and this is going last through friday and it should wrap up by the weekend. right now you are detoured to dale mabry highway. some travel times for you, lakeland 98 to 75, 22 minutes. just 11 minute through pasco down to 275. that's the northern apex through wesley chapel. great drive. no delays. that's a look at weather and traffic. >> thank you. we want to get back to breaking news. two explosions hit the airport in brussels. >> at least one person is dead. many others are injured. news channel 8's lindsey mastis joins us live. >> reporter: there's a lot of videos and pictures on social media showing the aftermath. some of it is too graphic to the show you but i wanted to let you know, we are also getting reports now of an explosion at a metro station.
this appears to be this area. you can see some smoke coming out of what would be the tunnel area and this is close to some european union institutions so it seems right now that there's multiple attacks going on. and we are trying to get this confirmed right now. and take a look at this video right here. this shows people running from the airport. you can see the destruction right here in the background. and take a look at this video. this is from the airport. passengers being evacuated, including on to the runway. the wound ready being treated and all flights are now canceled and people are urged to stay away. and this is what it looks like on the inside. let's take a look at this picture here. we know there are at least two explosions. it happened in the check-in zone. this is an international terminal used by different airlines including american airlines. the airport is also tweeting as well this morning asking people to stay away, saying it has

opportunity whole heartedly. for some, this is a homecoming of sorts. and the team brought equipment to donate to the home players. before the game, president barack obama will address the cuban people in a speech that will be televised by cuban tv. he is expected to call for the expansion of human rights on the island. and he will meet with cuban dissidents. some dissidents report that they have been followed around cuba but haven't been detained. the first pitch for today's game, gene, expected to get underway at 2:00 p.m. should be exciting. >> that will be something neat to watch. but also interesting to watch will be whether or not the cuban government decides to play ball with the americans in these negotiations. okay. you can count on news channel 8 and our own keith cate to
of today's game from havana, cuba. keith will have special reports starting on first at 4:00. and you can follow the latest developments at wfla.com. 4:38. let's get a check on the weather, leigh. >> it's a chilly start to this tuesday. but it's also not as windy. and those two things, the clear skies and cool conditions and the calmer winds allow for some frost to develop. there's a frost advisory for citrus and hernando counties but it warms up so fast today. look at this line, just a straight shot from 50 at 9:00 a.m. to 60 at 11:00 and near 70 at 2:00 and then 73 at 4:00 p.m. that's still technically below average for this time of year but it's warmer than yesterday. and lakeland, 71 degrees for the start of your game. clearwater, 69 for the start of yours. tampa, an evening game at 65:00, around 70 for the mets and yankees there. and tomorrow back up to 80 and 82 on thursday. and 80 on friday.
and the thing about your easter weekend, i am bringing the rain chance up. let's check on traffic on the 8s to see how things are going on this tuesday. it is chilly but it's a good drive. overnight construction in the sun coast area. if you're traveling on university parkway, all the eastbound lanes are blocked underneath i-75. one westbound lane is open. so that's the situation there. as far as on the interstate, northbound, you've just got one lane taken away but you can exit either direction. and let's move up to bradenton, fantastic there, no delays on 75. in fact, a nine minute commute from state road 64 to university parkway. and new port richey area on state road 54, good drive, just red lights but u.s. 19 to the sun coast parkway, 11 minutes. and 14 minutes through palm harbor from state road 54 to tampa road. that's a look at weather and traffic on the 8s. back to gene and gayle.
now to an 8 on your side safety alert. a pill disguised as xanax is killing people in pinellas county. the sheriff describes the so- called super pill at 80 times stronger than morphine. and news channel 8's adrienne pedersen is joinings from the sheriff's office this morning with more on the deadly drug. and now obviously people are legally prescribed xanax but that's not what we're talking about. >> reporter: that's right. good morning, gayle. and the sheriff here in pinellas county has some simple advice for everybody this morning, do not buy xanax off the street because you really have no idea what you're getting. >> you don't have to take a handful. all you have to do is take one and you're dead. >> reporter: that's the sheriff talking about the super pill. it's incredibly dangerous as you just heard. and the pill looks just like a xanax but it's mixed with a powerful pain medication called fentanyl. and now the deadly struck is only $5 a pop.
problem is really only here in pinellas county. so a 25-year-old dunedin woman overdosed on the super pill and died over the weekend. they're extremely concerned about it. undercover officers are now hitting the streets to find out more about where this is coming from. and of course, we have been reporting on a major problem with spice here in the area as well. so coming up in the next 30 minute, we will talk about what exactly authorities are doing and why there's this dangerous and scary up tick with drugs lately. gayle -- >> yeah, it's a two-fold problem. one is getting the alert out to people to not touch the medications and then finding out the sources. it seems to be isolated in pinellas. thank you, adrienne. hundreds of people at a funeral service failed to notice a huge mistake. >> coming up, who pointed it out and what happened. and then the two have been at it for weeks. now the fbi is getting some good news about getting into

it's 5:00. welcome to news channel 8 today. i'm gayle guyardo. >> and i'm gene ramirez. we begin with breaking news on this tuesday morning. multiple explosions in brussels have shut down the airport and all metro stations. witnesses report hearing several loud booms. security sources tell nbc news there are multiple casualties. now right now, the airport is on lockdown. that means no planes can land or take off from there. >> and now we are hearing that the metro system is being shut down because of smoke there. news channel 8's lindsey mastis joins us live.
